A project that has its roots in the earth, the family and the vine
The roots of our vines have remained the same for over a century. Ours too.
At Tenuta La Scogliera, we believe that wine is, first and foremost, a story of roots: those of our vines and those of our family. For five generations, we have been cultivating Carignano on the sandy soils of Sant’Antioco, in a landscape shaped by the sea, the wind and the Mediterranean scrub.
Our vines are trained using the Latin alberello method, following a tradition handed down through the generations, and are ungrafted: vines that still retain their original roots, never having been grafted. A rare and precious agricultural heritage that reflects the region’s most authentic identity.
For generations, our family has devoted itself exclusively to growing grapes, producing a Carignano of the very highest quality for some of Sardinia’s most prestigious wineries. In 2021, with Stefano – the fourth generation at the helm of the estate – a new challenge arose: to transform the fruit of our labour into wine, so that the story of our vineyards could be told directly.
Today we produce a limited number of bottles – around 2,000 a year – because we believe that excellence stems from respecting nature’s rhythms and tending to every single vine. Our philosophy is simple: wine is born in the vineyard. Every bottle must be the most sincere expression of the sands, the sea and the climate that characterise this corner of Sardinia.
A look to the future
Alongside Stefano, Erica – the fifth generation of the family – is forging her own path, following in his footsteps whilst looking to the future. Her aim is to develop and expand the Tenuta La Scogliera project, promoting not only the wines but also the culture and history they embody. Erica firmly believes that heroic ungrafted viticulture represents a unique heritage, capable of expressing the identity of Sant’Antioco and contributing to the cultural, landscape and wine tourism development of the area.
For us, preserving these vineyards means preserving a collective memory. Every grape harvest is an act of continuity between the past and the future, between those who planted these vines generations ago and those who continue to care for them today so that they may continue to tell their story.
